Access Modification Services

Individuals with disabilities can access their communities and increase or maintain their independence by finding assistance through CACIL’s  and the Connecticut Community Home Access Modification Forum. We can assist you with access issue evaluations, the construction of exterior ramps that meet all American Disabilities Association (ADA) and Barrier Free Design Code (BFDC) regulations, and the purchase and installation of accessibility equipment such as lifts, durable medical equipment, vehicle modifications and communication technology.

Eligibility for the Access Modification Program

To be eligible for the Access Modification Program, you must be over 17 years of age and able to self-direct.

Access Modification Request process

The process for access modification is focused on you, as the consumer:

  • CACIL works with you to determine your access needs.
  • We contact several vendors on your behalf and schedule meetings at your home.
  • After the vendor makes recommendations, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and evaluate the recommendation.
  • Vendors will send competitive bids to you.
  • You review the bids, decide which vendor is best, and start your accessibility project.
